October 4, 2018, Tioga, ND - The Bank of Tioga recently donated $10,000 the second year in a row for facility improvements to the Nordic Hills Apartment Complex located in Tioga, ND. The complex provides affordable rental housing for seniors and families. In addition, The Bank of Tioga affiliate, TS Institute, has monthly adult financial literacy educational opportunities planned at the complex.

Last year’s gift was utilized to update the elevator and security system.  This year funds will be used to address settling of the cement by the side and front door, and to install an electronic opener on the front door.

Lutheran Social Services of North Dakota’s vision is to provide services and tools needed to assist all people of North Dakota to build healthy and thriving families. LSSND helps serve the needs of the growing and diverse communities in North Dakota.

“We are always striving to learn the needs of our North Dakota communities and find the best way we can help find and offer solutions,” said Laurie Wigtil, Legacy Advisor for Lutheran Social Services of North Dakota.  Our partnership will allow us to assist the tenants we serve in our housing facilities using new and innovative ways to make their experience as a tenant safer, comfortable in beautiful surroundings and more knowledgeable in their rights and responsibilities. With the help of The Bank of Tioga we plan to make this the model that we will introduce in all of the communities we serve across North Dakota.”

Monthly financial wellness sessions will be held the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. in the Nordic Hill Apartments Community Room and conducted by Joy Sparks, TS Institute Financial Literacy Coordinator. The first session entitled, “Broke – Stop Scraping By and Get Your Finances Together,” kicks off Tuesday, Oct. 9 and is open to the public.  Snacks and a prize drawing are also included.

“LSS Housing is very fortunate in having a partnership with The Bank of Tioga.  Through this financial and educational support, we have been able to continue following our mission of giving healing, help and hope to all the individuals that we work with.  This has been accomplished by addressing needed updates and accessibility issues in and around the building,” said Paulette Paulson, Director for LSS Housing.

“Furthermore, the invaluable gift of knowledge the bank is providing is something we simply cannot put into words.  We appreciate the time and effort by coming to our property and offer financial literacy sessions.  These types of classes are needed and desirable by all ages and income, and to be able to offer it right in the resident’s home is something we could not do alone.  With a partner like The Bank of Tioga, it is now possible to dream of such options for tenants.  Thus, this offering will be a statewide model for all our communities across the state.”
