Crosby Community Center Receives $25,000 from The Bank of Tioga

January 9, 2017

The Crosby Community Center brought the local community together long before its completion in 2013.

In October of 2012, Crosby Blueline, a non-profit organization, decided to step up and take full responsibility for the creation and implementation of a community center. After one year of construction, the facility was functional, but was still in part-time construction while new features were installed.

The center has depended entirely on the donations and assistance from the community to become what is it today. The Bank of Tioga's recent donation of $25,000 is to help with expenses and potential plans for the future of this site.

From the start, the estimated $9 million project was significantly cut down to $4.2. million due to monetary donations from the community, loaning of construction equipment, and in-kind physical labor. Approximately $2 million came from individual donations alone. Over 100 individuals and companies alike would assist in various projects the center needs and assistance ranging from hours or days at a time.

Consumer Credit Relationship Manager at the Bank of Tioga, Debbie Axtman, had the chance to volunteer, working on projects such as painting and installing seating in the arena.

“I am very proud of the vision of a small group of people and how they managed to get this building built,” said Axtman. “This is a facility that the community of Crosby can be very proud of.”

The center currently houses Andrist Arena for hockey and the Curling Club until March in the multi-purpose facility; also available for a variety of events such as rodeos and horse shows.

Also available are meeting rooms being utilized for various activities; such as vendor fairs, wedding/baby showers, and wedding or anniversary receptions as the facility includes a kitchen.

President of Crosby Blueline Mark Knudson says the next project would be a fitness and gymnastics center, and an indoor swimming pool.
