The Bank of Tioga earns Bankers in Action recognition at annual banking convention

June 28, 2023

Tioga, ND, June 28, 2023 - The Bank of Tioga earned a “Bankers in Action” recognition at the North Dakota Banking Association (NDBA) and South Dakota Banking Association (SDBA) joint annual state convention held in Sioux Fall, South Dakota, June 4-6, 2023. The Bank of Tioga was among one of six banks selected to present in front of over 300 registrants for the convention about their financial literacy efforts and in-school banking programs.

Members of NDBA and SDBA gathered at the joint state convention for the 30th consecutive year, with the theme of "Where to NEXT?" The success of this long-time partnership displays the quality of educational sessions, strong attendance by both bankers and business partners, and professional relationships formed throughout the Dakotas. The convention has a four-city rotation between both states.

Banks are the cornerstones of communities, giving back in a variety of ways. From volunteer leadership to donating time to charitable causes and supporting organizations through financial gifts, banks succeed when the communities they serve succeed.

As part of the 2023 annual convention, the six selected banks had five minutes on the convention agenda to share their unique and innovative “Bankers in Action” project, with the goal to inspire colleagues to answer the question, “Where to Next?” Banks shared ways they found creative ways to meet the needs of their communities and help transform lives.

“We believe reinvesting in our communities is as important as the products and services we provide. Each employee, client and community member has been the fiber of our success and the reason we can reinvest back into the community. To share our story of impact with our in-school banks branches in both Tioga and Crosby was an honor,” said The Bank of Tioga President, Savanna Hendrickson.

This student-branch structure and financial literacy curriculum provided by The Bank of Tioga, is made possible by the bank’s mission to reinvest 10 percent of its pre-tax income back into the community.

The Bank of Tioga DC Branch in Crosby began January 4, 2018 and the Pirate Branch in Tioga opened October 29, 2021. The student banks are available to grades K-6 with the objective to help create good savings habits and encouraging super savers who participate at least fifty-percent of the time throughout the school year.

Goals of the student-run in-school branches are to introduce the concept of saving money at an early age, reinforce savings and economic vitality throughout curriculum and help increase parental involvement and discussion around finances.
